Elizabeth VanLew

  • raised in Richmond in a slaveholding family
• ardent abolitionist
• kept a diary that details her adventures during the war
• inadvertently became a Union spy

Lynn Ruehlmann tells stories through theatrical portrayals of real people in history, real people she has known, and bigger than life characters of myths.  Her performances and workshops have taken her to colleges, schools and museums all across the country.  Young Audiences of Virginia named her Artist of the Year, she won a Folio award for Best Actress in a Comedy, and the audiobook of her portion of this program, “Spy!  The Story of Civil War Spy Elizabeth Van Lew,” won two national awards. www.cascadingstories.com

Megan Hicks tells intelligent tales that empower listeners and bring them into the heart of the action. “What Was Civil About that War…,” Megan’s part of this program, received a Parents’ Choice award for teens and older listeners and was named a finalist for The Audies 2005.
